Description
 
The successful candidate will serve as Assistant Department Head. Manage, coordinate, and/or oversee all departmental activities related to EAPS (Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Science) faculty, committees (dept., college, university level), alumni, visitors, professional society meetings/events, student recruiting, building operations  and college/university . Supervise departmental clerical, advising, and outreach staff. Participate on various departmental and college committees as requested or assigned. Collect and maintain metrics related to all department activities. Respond to requests for reports, survey responses, or data. Assist in the preparation/update of the department's strategic plan, annual report, and external review. Acquire, store, update and analyze department metrics.
Qualifications
 
Required:
  • Master's degree in Geosciences or closely related field.
  • Three years of previous university management experience (academia or program).
  • Academic administration, personnel supervision, program management, general education in earth sciences.
  • Ability to interpret and implement University policies and procedures.
  • Excellent communication (oral & written), strategic planning, performance metrics, problem-solving, analytical, organizational, event planning, project management and customer service skills.
  • Ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels.
  • Ability to foster a participative supervisory style that utilizes teamwork to successfully guide the work of others.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet established deadlines.
  • Computer and related software skills (i.e., word processing, creating and maintaining databases/spreadsheets, PowerPoint, web savvy etc.).
  • Ability to lift and carry 10 pounds frequently and 20 pounds occasionally.
Preferred:
  • PhD in Geosciences or closely related area.
