FACULTY POSITION IN THERMO-FLUID SCIENCE
The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at Kansas State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in the thermo-fluids area. Thermo-fluids encompasses the Institute for Environmental Research (IER), the National Gas Machinery Laboratory (NGML), and the Aircraft Cabin Environmental Research (ACER) Laboratory, each possessing unique research strengths, along with strong industry and government financial support. Our strategic focus is on an individual who would enhance both the computational as well as the experimental program.

Current research includes such areas as building energy utilization, indoor environmental systems and sustainability, transportation vehicle environmental systems, nano-based environmental air quality, remediation of engine exhaust contaminates, and optical measurements and instrumentation development. The new faculty member is expected to enhance and complement current research areas in the department, and make a positive contribution to the quality of the undergraduate and graduate teaching program.

Qualifications include a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or related field, a desire to teach at all levels, and an ability to obtain sustained research funding.

The department has approximately 700 undergraduates, 85 graduate students, $5.5M/yr external funding, and 22 faculty. Manhattan is a vibrant family oriented city of about 53,000 in the scenic Flint Hills. It is the cultural and business hub of a tri-county community of over 200,000 residents. The Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions in the 2011/2012 academic year. A doctoral degree in the relevant engineering discipline or related field is required. Interdisciplinary candidates are sought in the following areas:

(1) Computer engineering, with emphasis on VLSI/CAD, SoC/RF/3D design, FPGA/embedded systems;
(2) Lab-on-a-chip systems, with emphasis on microfluidics, MEMS, medical/bio interface electronics;
(3) Distributed sensing and control, for applications on solid-state lighting, transportation systems, smart grids, solar energy, distributed imaging systems;
(4) Multi-transceiver sensing/imaging hardware and systems, with emphasis on ultrasound, RF, infrared, light, plasmonics, photonics and THz.

Junior candidates must show outstanding research, teaching and graduate student mentorship potential. Senior candidates may be considered with an exceptional research, teaching, and graduate student record. Salary level will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

We anticipate that the successful candidate will complement the highly motivated and entrepreneurial spirit of the College faculty, contributing meaningfully to the success of future teaching, research, and service accomplishments. Faculty research activities are essential to the success of our program and as such new members are expected to initiate and sustain strong sponsored research and graduate training programs.

The Department of Electrical Engineering has 24 core faculty members with 7 Fellows of the IEEE and 4 Fellows of the AAAS. The faculty has high visibility and professional recognition. During the last two years our annual externally funded research expenditures averaged between $4M - $5M per year. Our graduate program ranked very high in the recent NRC rankings. Currently, we have 226 students in our ABET accredited Undergraduate Program, 156 students in our Graduate Program, and we share with the CSE Department the teaching of the 150 undergraduate Computer Engineering students.

The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) is seeking applications and nominations for the position of Director, Center for Operational Analysis (COA). The COA is a multidisciplinary research and education center focused on defense-related operational modeling and analysis to enhance war-fighter efficiency and effectiveness at all levels. The Director is responsible for strengthening existing partnerships, enhancing the visibility, relevance and excellence of the research portfolio; and attracting high quality research personnel. The COA resides within the Department of Operational Sciences (see http://www.afit.edu/en/ens/index.cfm) which is one of six departments in AFIT’s Graduate School of Engineering and Management.

AFIT offers a unique blend of academic and military cultures as the fully-accredited graduate school of the United States Air Force located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) near Dayton, Ohio. This site provides an ideal environment for our 130 graduate faculty and 800 graduate students to collaborate with other organizations co-located at WPAFB, including the headquarters for Air Force Materiel Command, Air Force Research Laboratory, Aeronautical Systems Center, and the National Air and Space Intelligence Center. AFIT’s Department of Operational Sciences offers defense-focused, research-based M.S. and Ph.D. programs in operations research and logistics management to over 150 graduate students. The COA supports faculty members’ research projects (currently in excess of $4M per annum) through senior-level sponsor interactions, advocating selected initiatives, maintaining a physical computational laboratory of 1560 ft sq., coordinating the efforts of 14 research and support staff, and promoting technology transfer of research results.

The COA Director position includes tenure-track faculty rank in the Department of Operational Sciences. The successful candidate must possess an earned doctorate in Operations Research, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, or closely related field with experience in graduate-level research development and consultative activities related to defense sector operational problems. Candidates should exhibit a publication record, experience in obtaining external research funding, managing multiple projects and budgets involving personnel at various levels, and sound academic and professional leadership abilities. Significant prior experience with the Department of Defense is strongly preferred. The University of California Santa Barbara seeks to hire a highly creative and productive individual to fill a Mellichamp Chair in Systems Biology. This is a tenured position. The academic appointment will be primarily in Chemical Engineering with a potential joint appointment in the Department of Molecular Cellular and Developmental Biology, depending on the applicant’s background and research interests. We seek outstanding individuals with clear evidence of important intellectual contributions in the general area of systems biology, including but not limited to quantitative modeling of biological phenomena, large-scale genomics and informatics, tissue engineering and stem cell biotechnology, biomaterials, drug delivery or metabolic engineering.
