The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University (http://me.stanford.edu/) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the junior level (Assistant or untenured Associate Professor) in the broad area of Biomechanical Engineering. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, mechanobiology, cell mechanics, transport phenomena in biological systems, bio-inspired design, design and analysis of biodevices or bioinstrumentation, biomaterials, and modeling of physiological systems. In general, we give higher priority to the overall originality and promise of the candidate's work than to the area of specialization.
An earned doctorate, evidence of the ability to pursue a program of research, and a strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching are required. Successful candidates will be expected to teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels and to build and lead a team of graduate students in Ph.D. research.

Preference will be given to candidates with strong research and teaching experience in the areas of engineering management and lean systems engineering. Individuals with research interests in the management of complex, engineered systems in manufacturing, healthcare, or transportation are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to initiate new funded research as well as expand, complement, and collaborate with existing research programs in the school and college.
Applicants must hold a doctorate in a relevant field. Candidates for tenure-track positions should have a demonstrated ability or significant potential for excellent teaching, leading and collaborating in innovative research, and attracting the necessary funding to sustain a vigorous research program. Good verbal and written communication skills are a prerequisite. Salary and start-up packages will be commensurate with experience.
