Faculty Position in Civil and Environmental Engineering
at MSU The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) at
Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for a tenure-system
faculty position in the hydrology and water resources area. The position is
expected to be filled at the Assistant Professor level; however, exceptional
candidates will be considered at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in civil engineering, water resources
engineering, environmental engineering or a closely related discipline, an
interest in interdisciplinary research and an outstanding record of
scholarship. The depth of scholarship and overall promise of the candidate are
most important for this position; therefore, candidates in all areas of
hydrology and water resources will be considered.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate- and
graduate-level courses in hydrology, hydraulics and fluid mechanics and develop
a vibrant, externally-funded research program. Michigan State University
provides excellent opportunities for collaboration with other academic units
and has several campus-wide initiatives in place related to water and the
environment (e.g., the Global Water Initiative, http://water.msu.edu).
The CEE Department at MSU is organized around civil
engineering and environmental engineering degree programs, and faculty members
specialize in research sub-disciplines including structures, pavements,
environmental and water resources. The Department currently has 21
tenure-stream faculty members, with approximately 400 undergraduate and 130
graduate students. Degrees in both civil engineering and environmental
engineering are offered at the BS, MS and PhD levels. Scholastically there is a
strong trend toward breaking out of sub disciplinary confines, with approaches
that bring in new technologies and scientific approaches, address new problems
or those that span multiple traditional subject areas, or are based on
considerations and criteria new to professional practice.
MSU enjoys a park-like campus with outlying research
facilities and natural areas. The campus is adjacent to the city of East
Lansing and the capital city of Lansing.
The Lansing metropolitan area has a
population of approximately 450,000. Local communities
have excellent school systems and place a high value on education.
