The Department of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) at Boise State University plans to hire three tenure track faculty by fall 2012 to help grow its undergraduate and graduate programs. Hires will be made at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. A doctoral degree in MSE, or a closely related field, is required. Successful candidates will be expected to be highly collaborative, contribute significantly to both graduate and undergraduate research, and make balanced contributions to teaching, research, and service.
Faculty are being sought who have expertise that support or are complimentary to strategic research areas of the department and university. Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to:
- computational (from small to large, short to long);
- transport (thermal, optical, electrical, atomic, and confinement effects);
- polymeric (soft-condensed matter physics and polymer chemistry);
- biomaterials (DNA machinery, bio-inorganic interfaces, and nanotechnology);
- green technology (solar, LED, energy applications, sustainable and strategic materials);
- fabrication and joining (thin films, functional and advanced materials);
- characterization (surface and microstructural analysis, physical properties).
The MSE Department is part of a vibrant College of Engineering, recently ranked 12th in U.S. News & World Report’s list of best undergraduate engineering programs among comprehensive public universities. The College offers a variety of accredited programs and enjoys a high level of support from the high-tech industry in Idaho and the intermountain west. The MSE program is ABET-accredited and has been one of the fastest growing materials programs in the U.S., offering BS, MS, MEngr, and PhD degrees. The recent addition of the PhD degree was made possible by a generous donation from Micron Corporation and additional University support.

The University of Wisconsin‐Madison is a world‐class academic institution with an international reputation for basic, applied and interdisciplinary research. UW‐Madison has recently surpassed the $1 billion mark in annual research expenditures and ranks third in the nation in science and engineering expenditures.
The university has a deep culture of collaborative interdisciplinary research. UW‐Madison is one of 18 institutions funded by a National Library of Medicine Training Grant for biomedical informatics.
The Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics has more than 30 faculty members whose research and teaching interests span a wide array of areas in biostatistics, bioinformatics, image analysis, and health informatics. Members of the department are involved in collaborative projects with scientists and clinicians from a large number of departments and centers across the UW campus and the state, including the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, the Carbone Cancer Center, the Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation, the Genome Center of Wisconsin, and the Wisconsin Genomics Initiative.
The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering has more than 20 faculty members, including five who have research interests in developing innovative solutions to critical health care problems while contributing to advancements in decision science, decision support systems and quality research. Members of the department are involved in a number of research centers, including the Center for Health Enhancement Systems Studies, the Center for Health Systems Research and Analysis, the Center for Quality and Productivity Improvement, and the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery. The department is regularly ranked first in external research funding per faculty member among industrial engineering departments.

Duties include, but are not limited to: administration and oversight to all academic programs, management of all budgets, and personnel matters within the College, whose 22 faculty (18 at the Huntington campus and 4 faculty at the South Charleston campus) currently serve approximately 400 undergraduate students and 200 graduate students; working closely with faculty, staff, and students to ensure programs of outstanding educational quality, and excellence and integrity in research; oversight and leadership of the daily operations of the College, including the development and implementation f a College strategic plan with resource priorities, the development and implementation of a variety of retention initiatives in line with university retention and student success initiatives, including a new core general education curriculum, related to curriculum, instruction, research, and academic achievements; participation in fund raising and development activities, in conjunction with college's advisory board and the university's Office of Development.
