The Pennsylvania State University, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for a non-tenure-track lecturer position in the area of structural engineering, effective Fall, 2013. The successful candidate must have an earned Ph.D. in civil engineering and will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in structural engineering that may include structural analysis, design of concrete structures (ACI 318), design of steel structures (AISC LRFD) and other courses as needed. Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrated and successful teaching record in undergraduate structural engineering courses and are a registered professional engineer with applicable professional experience. The candidate will also be expected to participate in undergraduate advising and undergraduate student activities. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering consists of 32 full-time faculty, and offers programs leading to the BS, MS, M.Eng, and Ph.D. degree.  Information about the department can be found at http://www.engr.psu.edu/ce/. The College of Nursing at the University of Central Florida (UCF) seeks to recruit a distinguished simulation scientist for a newly created Endowed Chair position, established with the generous support of Florida Hospital, one of the College’s key partners.  The Chair Holder will work closely with a group of simulation research faculty in the College and collaborate with UCF’s Institute for Simulation and Training (IST) and the Florida Health Care Simulation Alliance, to build a portfolio of interdisciplinary research projects.  The position reports directly to the Dean with an appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure.

The Endowed Chair’s simulation technology focus, expertise and vision will augment and broaden the College’s capacity to develop innovative approaches for improving health care systems and delivery; positively impacting patient outcomes and safety; enhancing clinical practice and training; and promoting healthy lifestyle and improved self-management of chronic conditions.  The Holder will also build upon existing synergies within the University, in the region and beyond.

Position Summary

The University Urban Honors Program invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Urban Ecology. This faculty member will ideally have demonstrated effectiveness as a classroom teacher and will participate in an interdisciplinary core curriculum focused around the ecology, history, urban policy, development, and the representation and cultural significance of cities. The successful candidate is expected to work collaboratively and across disciplines to pursue an active program of scholarly research, publication, and external grant funding. Candidates must possess a PhD degree and be committed to both environmental research and teaching ecological science and general education writing intensive courses. This position might appeal particularly to people in environmental studies, environmental science, urban ecology or landscape architecture. This position is part of a project of re-envisioning an “urban honors program.” Faculty will be expected to collaborate with students, university colleagues and community partners to create engaging learning experiences throughout the metropolitan region and to help to build a sense of small college community for students in our new residence hall.

Responsibilities include:

1.    Teaching in the core curriculum of the University Honors program, including courses in ecological science and writing intensive seminars.

2.    Pursuit of an active scholarship program.

3.    Pursuit of external funding opportunities.

4.    Collaboration with scholars and professionals across campus to support the mission of the University Honors Program.

5.    Mentoring of undergraduate students as researchers and future professionals.

6.    Helping to support the development of an on-campus Honors residence program.

Required:

• PhD in hand by June 2014. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Postdoctoral experience (1-2 years).

The starting annual salary rate for this position is competitive (dependent upon qualifications and experience] with an excellent benefits package including fully paid healthcare; a generous retirement package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependant at any of the Oregon University System schools.
