NOTES:
The Department
of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of
Engineering (www.engineering.pitt.edu/bioengineering)
invites applications for a tenured or tenure-stream faculty position, at the
rank of assistant, associate or full professor, in the research area of
neurotechnology. This is a joint recruitment between the Department of
Bioengineering and the Neurotechnology Center within our newly established
Brain Institute. A major aim of the Center is focused on basic science
research and novel engineering that will be transferred directly to human
subjects. The neural engineering community in Pittsburgh has grown
rapidly over the past decade and our faculty in this area are
world-renowned. We seek a candidate who will complement and add to our
strengths. Candidates with specialties and research interests in
developing novel revolutionary technologies to interface with the nervous
system at the tissue level (including, but not limited to electrical, optical,
ultrasonic, and molecular modalities), implantable electronics, or robotics
engineering that utilizes neural control are especially desired.
Applicants
should have an earned PhD in a bioengineering, neuroscience, or closely related
discipline, with research contributions and reputation commensurate with their
experience and rank. Applicants must be committed to high quality
teaching for a diverse student body at both the undergraduate and graduate
levels, and are expected to develop a vibrant, federally funded research program.
Located in the
Oakland section of Pittsburgh, the University of Pittsburgh is a top-5
institution in terms of NIH funding and provides a rich environment for
interdisciplinary research, strengthened through its affiliation with the
University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and collaborations with Carnegie
Mellon University. The Department of Bioengineering is consistently
ranked among the top programs in the country, and has strong research and
educational programs, offering undergraduate (285 students, sophomore-to-senior
years) and graduate (155 PhD or MD/PhD and 37 MS students) degrees. The Center
for Neural Basis of Cognition (www.cnbc.cmu.edu),
Center for Neuroscience (cnup.neurobio.pitt.edu),
and McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine (www.mirm.pitt.edu) offer many collaborative
research opportunities.
Interested
candidates should send the following PDF attachments via email to bioeapp@pitt.edu (include NEURO-TECHNOLOGY
POSITION in the subject line): (1) cover letter, (2) complete CV (including
funding record), (3) independent research statement, (4) teaching statement,
(5) three representative publications, and (6) list of five references (names
and complete contact information). All applications will be reviewed
promptly and continuously so candidates are encouraged to apply early.
The position search will conclude on March 16, 2015.
The Department of Bioengineering is
strongly committed to a diverse academic environment and places high priority
on attracting female and underrepresented minority candidates. We
strongly encourage candidates from these groups to apply for the position.
