The Civil Engineering Department at Boise State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. Successful candidates will be highly collaborative and contribute significantly to teaching and research at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates are being sought with expertise in environmental engineering or water resources engineering.
The Civil Engineering Department is part of a vibrant College of Engineering, which was ranked 15th in U.S. News & World Report’s 2013 list of best undergraduate engineering programs among comprehensive public universities. The College is experiencing tremendous growth and enjoys a high level of support from the high-tech industry in Idaho and the intermountain west. With nearly 22,000 students, Boise State is the largest University in Idaho.
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, a doctorate degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline, and the ability to perform high-quality research as evidenced by acquisition of external funding and peer-reviewed publications. The successful candidate is required to have a professional engineer’s license or acquire one within three years of appointment, in accordance with State of Idaho rules to teach design courses.

If you are an out-of-the-box thinker and have a passion for changing the face of health care, become a faculty member in the Health Care Systems Engineering Program (HSE) at Mayo Clinic. We are looking for an engineer with the drive, knowledge, collaborative nature and skills to enhance patient and provider experience, improve health and manage or reduce the cost of health care through system-level transformation. Faculty have the unique opportunity to lead research projects and direct implementation to see tangible results.
The ideal Health Care Systems Engineer/Scientist will have a PhD in Industrial or Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Management Science, or a related field with a strong Systems background. Experience in and proven understanding of health care applications and the ability to collaborate with clinicians is essential. Candidates will be given the opportunity to lead innovative and collaborative research in a multidisciplinary, clinical or embedded research setting, shaping study designs and translation aligning with Mayo Clinic’s strategic value and quality initiatives. Specific experience and national recognition as an expert in large scale optimization is preferred.
The HSE team spearheads a state-of-the-art Clinical Engineering Learning Lab (CELL), with the first being in the Emergency Department. The novel research and rapid-translation environment bring together clinical and research expertise to co-lead and study pressing issues in healthcare delivery. This trans-disciplinary team co-creates solutions to intractable problems and rapid-deploys into the clinical practice. The team leverages high-density passive RFID technology to improve care for patients and providers. The CELL concept will spread throughout Mayo to other clinical areas to inject scientifically-informed healthcare transformation. In addition, projects in the Department of Surgery include studying workload of surgical teams, and better prioritization and scheduling of patients to improve safety and access using human factors and operations research findings.

Kern Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery uses data-driven science to improve the quality, safety and value of health care and create better patient experiences. The goal of the Health Care Systems Engineering Program within the Center is to advance science through scholarship and innovation and make significant impacts in practice through implementation, while educating future researchers and practitioners. Mayo Clinic is ranked number one in more specialties than any other hospital in the nation for 2015-2016 by U.S. News and World Report.
