Central State University
invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Computer
Science at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 2013.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Perform duties pertaining to
teaching, service, student advisement, and research as a faculty member in the
Computer Science Program.
DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERCENTAGE OF TIME:
- Teach a wide variety of Computer Science courses (a minimum of twelve hours per semester (or twenty-four annually)) and involve senior undergraduates in related research to prepare students go to graduate school or go to job market.
- Participate in coordinated research activities and collaborations with other institutions at national and international levels.
- Participate in departmental, college, and university committees and other service activities to enhance the role and mission of the university.
- Show academic abilities to publish research work in peer-reviewed journals.

Maintain office hours and provide advisement for
assigned students.

Assist in curriculum development, review, and
textbook selection.

Maintain an active research program (in part by
external funding)
·
Participate in professional development
activities.
·
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent technical knowledge of computer hardware systems, operating systems, and network operating systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Teaching excellence in the following areas: Programming Languages, Data Structures, Operating Systems, Software Engineering, Database Management, and Web Programming.
- Familiarity with Internet browsers and protocols such as: http, ftp, telnet, etc.
- Excellent knowledge of parallel and high performance computing systems.
SPECIFIC
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Ph. D. degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
- Experience: 3-5 years teaching experience at the university level is preferred. (Candidates with a minimum of 2 years successful postdoctoral or industrial experience are invited to apply.)
- Strong evidence of scholarship and research, particularly scholarly publications. Consideration will be given to such subsidiary evidence as direction of, or significant participation in research projects, participation in scholarly activities of learned societies, and professional consultative services.
- Ability to generate grant proposals for research, teaching, and services.
- The desirable candidate will demonstrate an interdisciplinary research orientation
- Dedication to ensuring excellence in curriculum delivery, development, and improvement.
- Experience and interest in teaching students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds are essential.
- Ability to use technology in instruction and student advising.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the role of a comprehensive college in a multi-cultural setting.
- Evidence of the possession of those qualities of character, personality and competence expected in a teacher and director of students.
- Involvement with recognized professional associations or organizations.
