NOTES:

The College of Engineering and Computer Science at Wright State University seeks a dynamic and visionary individual for the position of Chair of the Department of Biomedical, Industrial and Human Factors Engineering (BIE). A PhD in biomedical, industrial or human factors engineering or a closely related field from an accredited university is required, along with a record commensurate with appointment as a full professor. Candidates should exhibit proven leadership skills; a propensity for administration; a record of effective budget and financial management skills; experience with undergraduate and graduate programs; and familiarity with ongoing processes associated with continuous ABET accreditation.

The department comprises 17 full-time faculty and offers three programs at the graduate level—Biomedical Engineering, Industrial and Human Factors Engineering, and Engineering Innovation and Entrepreneurship. There are approximately 130 master’s degree students (36% Biomedical, 46% Industrial and Human Factors, 18% Engineering Innovation and Entrepreneurship), 33 PhD students, and nearly 500 current and intending undergraduates (72% Biomedical, 28% Industrial and Systems). The BIE Department has seen a 68% increase in enrollment over the last five years, with enrollment projected to continue to rise.

BIE Department faculty members have been awarded funding through NIH, NSF, the State of Ohio, and numerous industry contracts. Additionally, they have active collaborations with the Boonshoft School of Medicine and the PhD in Biomedical Sciences program, including the Departments of Surgery and Neuroscience, respectively. The Neuroscience and Engineering Collaboration building will be completed in summer 2015.

The College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) offers eight undergraduate engineering and computer science degrees, all of which are accredited by ABET. Additionally, the College offers eleven master’s degree programs and two PhD programs. CECS is made up of four departments with a total of approximately 80 faculty members, 2500 students, and research expenditures of over $8 million per year. The College is a place of innovation where a nationally recognized undergraduate engineering math model for student success was designed, and that has now been implemented in more than 20 universities.

A Carnegie-classified research university of nearly 18,000 students on two campuses, Wright State's main campus is located just outside of Dayton, Ohio, near the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and numerous technology enterprises. WSU provides a high quality, affordable education to students from all 50 states and 64 countries in an inclusive, diverse community. The university offers 91 bachelor's degrees and 88 master's, doctoral, and professional degree programs through our eight colleges and three schools including the School of Professional Psychology and the Boonshoft School of Medicine.
