The College of Engineering at Wichita State University (WSU) seeks candidates for two tenure track faculty positions in Engineering at the Assistant Professor rank, starting August 2011. The individuals chosen for this position will be responsible for Engineering Physics courses in the College including the introductory mechanics course for freshman engineering students. Depending on the expertise of the candidate, the appointment may be in one of the departments within the College of Engineering or be considered for a joint appointment within the College.

Applicants must have a doctorate in engineering or physics or a related discipline, and at least one degree in engineering. Strong communication skills, a demonstrated ability to teach, an ability to publish in recognized journals, and potential to attract external funding are required. A commitment to diversity and the ability to work with a diverse population are also required. Preferred qualifications include demonstrated excellence teaching freshman and sophomore engineering students and experience teaching freshman and sophomore level applied physics and/or engineering
mechanics. Experience working in an engineering department – teaching, mentoring students, conducting research, publishing, and guiding graduate students will be viewed favorably. Also preferred is an undergraduate degree in engineering, and at least one degree from a university in the United States.

Wichita, a city of more than 400,000 people, is the heart of industry and commerce in the state of Kansas. It is the site of six major aerospace companies (Cessna, Hawker-Beechcraft, Bombardier Learjet, Spirit AeroSystems, Boeing, and Airbus). The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISEN) at Texas A&M University is seeking to hire a Tenure Track Assistant Professor with expertise in Systems Engineering. The ISEN Department comprises 24 full time faculty and over 650 undergraduate and 260 graduate students with strengths in all areas of industrial and systems engineering. The Department offers an on-line Master’s degree with a Systems Engineering specialty. An individual is sought who will contribute to teaching and research in organizational, functional and relational issues embodied in the engineering of complex technological, social and service systems, with particular emphases on energy, aerospace, health care delivery and distributed manufacturing systems.

Candidates must have a PhD in industrial and systems engineering or a closely related discipline and strong skills in systems modeling and computation, systems integration and architecting, complex adaptive systems, and engineering management and organization. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a focused research program in this area, to teach graduate and undergraduate courses, and to supervise masters and Ph.D. students. The ability to lead and support interdisciplinary research addressing large and complex problems is particularly desired.

North Carolina State University is among the top 20 public research institutions in the country. The Fitts ISE Department (http://www.ise.ncsu.edu/), one of only five named departments of industrial engineering in the U.S, has four core areas, including: ergonomics, manufacturing, production systems, and systems analysis and optimization. There are approximately 190 graduate and 185 undergraduate students currently enrolled in degree programs with emphasis in these areas. The core areas are complemented by three major research thrusts, including biomedical manufacturing, health systems engineering and logistics. This position will support the recent strategic expansion of the Bioengineering undergraduate program within the College of Engineering. Candidates with expertise, teaching and research interests in the area of biomaterials, preferably with application toward tissue engineering, biosensors, biomedical devices, or use of nanotechnologies are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have a doctoral degree related to biomedical engineering or bioengineering, background to teach and establish a research focus in biomaterials, effective oral and written communication skills, a record of scholarly activity, and the potential to secure external funding.
