Applicants are invited for academic tenure-track positions in the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE) at North Carolina State University at the assistant or associate professor ranks.
North Carolina State University is among the top 20 public research institutions in the country. The Fitts ISE Department (http://www.ise.ncsu.edu/), one of only five named departments of industrial engineering in the U.S, has four core areas, including: ergonomics, manufacturing, production systems, and systems analysis and optimization. There are approximately 190 graduate and 185 undergraduate students currently enrolled in degree programs with emphasis in these areas. The core areas are complemented by three major research thrusts, including biomedical manufacturing, health systems engineering and logistics. We are seeking colleagues with research interests in a broad set of industrial and systems engineering topics spanning the department’s current strengths and future strategic directions, especially with application domains in the health-related fields including ergonomics (with preference in physical ergonomics/ rehabilitation engineering), biomedical manufacturing (including multi-scale materials processing), operations research and production systems.
Applicants for faculty openings must hold an earned doctoral degree with preference going to those persons trained in engineering, computer science or a related field. Teaching responsibilities will include graduate and undergraduate instruction as well as new course development in the faculty member’s area of expertise. Applicants will be expected to develop a sponsored research program in their areas of interest, based on a record of scholarly achievements. Research responsibilities for faculty include a commitment to original and independent research, establishing new research directions, and pursuing interdisciplinary collaborations both inside and outside NC State University. Our location in Raleigh, NC places us close to three major universities, a large number of world-class companies and several leading research institutes.
