DEPARTMENT: Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering
POSITION: Four Tenure-Track Positions in Engineering
NOTES:
Positions: The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Georgia (UGA) invites exceptional candidates for four full-time (academic year) tenure-track positions at the assistant, associate or full professor rank in all areas of civil, electrical & electronics, and mechanical engineering. Selection of rank will be commensurate with candidate’s qualifications and experience. These positions offer an outstanding opportunity to build an engineering program for the 21st century guided by the University of Georgia’s Strategic Plan for Engineering (http://www.uga.edu/strategicplanning/part5/3.html. The positions will be available on or before January 1, 2012.
Responsibilities: Successful candidates will be charged to establish a research program of national and international prominence, develop courses and pedagogical approaches to educate UGA engineers in a liberal arts environment, and partner with faculty in other disciplines and with industries to build a vibrant environment that lead to integrating discovering from multiple fields for designing systems that are in balance with the natural world. Candidate’s research program will be expected to focus on technological innovations and advances in basic knowledge, and take systems perspective to significantly benefit society. Candidates will have broad latitude to select a research area(s) that provide innovation technology for sustainable energy and power systems, improved urban infrastructure, better medicines and advance preventive health care systems, precision manufacturing, sensors and controls, informatics, engineering with a living system component and advanced electromagnetic devices for micro- and nano-level systems. Candidate should compete successfully for extramural funding to support research and a companion graduate and postdoctoral training program.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree or an equivalent terminal degree is required. Knowledge of engineering science and design and expertise applicable to at least one research area listed above is required. Candidates with Professional Engineering (PE) license or prepared to qualify for it are preferred. Individuals currently employed in industry are encouraged to apply.
Engineering at the University of Georgia: Since 2001, the Faculty of Engineering (a unit fulfilling functions of a school of engineering) has been advancing engineering at the confluence of disciplines. It includes over 100 UGA faculty members from 25 academic departments collaborating in research, teaching and outreach programs. Currently UGA Engineering offers 5 undergraduate and 5 graduate engineering degree programs. In 2010, UGA received approval to implement three new undergraduate engineering degrees in civil engineering, electrical & electronics engineering, and mechanical engineering. Students in these degree programs will be accepted in 2012 and 2013. Current researchprogram areas include agricultural engineering, biochemical engineering, bioenergy engineering, bioimagining, tissue engineering, ecological engineering, computer systems engineering, environmental engineering, nanoengineering and engineering education.
