The Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez invites applications for a tenure-track position.  The department has 20 full-time equivalent faculty members (18 with Ph.D. degrees) and offers a B.S. in Industrial Engineering (ABET accredited), and M.E. and M.S. degrees in Industrial Engineering.  A Ph.D. program is underway.  The five-year undergraduate program has about 480 students and the graduate program about 35.  The IE Faculty conducts research in applied statistics, operations research, process automation, manufacturing systems, human factors, engineering management, service systems, and engineering education.  

Position requires a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering or closely related field at the time of appointment. The responsibilities include carrying out research, teaching, committee assignments and other service responsibilities.  Candidates should have good interpersonal skills and good communication skills in English (working knowledge of Spanish is highly desirable).  Applicants must show potential for performing quality research and teaching, and be interested in teaching a variety of industrial engineering courses. The annual starting salary for an assistant professor is $70,548.  Since Puerto Rico is a Commonwealth within the USA our faculty is eligible for applying for grants from federal agencies such as NSF, NIH, DoD, and so on. The IE Faculty has a tradition of attracting funds from local industry and federal agencies.

Chair, Biology Department

THE POSITION: The University of Texas – Arlington’s Department of Biology seeks an individual with outstanding academic credentials in any field of Biology to serve as the Department Chair.  The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. and have proven management and leadership skills, as well as a track record of extramurally funded internationally recognized research and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring.  Applicants should present a compelling vision for guiding the future trajectory of the department – one that capitalizes on recent departmental and institutional investments in faculty and research infrastructure to foster UT Arlington’s explicit goal of becoming a Tier 1 research university.

The new chair will lead a department comprised of 22 faculty, 7 full-time lecturers and 12 staff.  With over 2,029 majors across 4 undergraduate degrees, 55 M.S. students, and 52 Ph.D. students, Biology has the largest enrollment in the College of Science. Broad areas of faculty strength include: aquatic and plant ecology, genomics, molecular evolution, microbiology, and herpetology.
