The
Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Nuclear Engineering (MANE) at
RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE in Troy, NY invites applications for a
tenure-track faculty position in the area of Nuclear Engineering to
begin August 15, 2014 or thereafter. The emphasis is on individuals at
the Assistant or Associate Professor levels. Exceptionally qualified
individuals in all areas of nuclear engineering are encouraged to apply.
Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience in all
aspects of reactor thermal hydraulics, dynamics and safety.
Candidates must possess an earned PhD or foreign degree equivalent in Nuclear Engineering or a closely related field. In addition, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the potential to carry out the following position duties: develop and maintain an internationally recognized, interdisciplinary program of funded research in Nuclear Engineering, to actively contribute to the core graduate and undergraduate teaching missions of MANE and engage in department, institute and professional service activities.
MANE
is in a period of unprecedented growth with many new faculty positions
anticipated in the next five years fueled by the recently announced Faculty
Expansion Initiative in the School of Engineering. Research conducted at MANE
addresses some of the world’s most pressing technological challenges—from
energy and sustainable development to materials, manufacturing, controls,
biotechnology and human health—and the faculty members are at the leading edge
of their fields. The department's annual research expenditures total more than
$13 million. More than 1,100 undergraduate students and 150 graduate students
are currently enrolled in MANE.
The
Nuclear Engineering Program at Rensselaer houses a powerful electron linear
accelerator capable of delivering intense neutron and gamma beams, a unique low
power (<100W) open pool reactor, and several teaching and research
laboratories. These facilities provide an excellent opportunity to develop
unique leading research and teaching programs. As part of its strategic initiative
to revitalize and grow the Nuclear Engineering program, the School of
Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY is pleased to offer
this unique opportunity to help define and shape the Nuclear Engineering
program through the nuclear "renaissance" and the 21st century.
