NOTES:
DIRECTOR OF SYSTEMS ENGINEERING
ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING AND
MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENTS

SEATTLE UNIVERSITY

The Electrical and Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Departments at Seattle University invite applications for a Director of Systems Engineering beginning September 2014. The Director will be appointed as a full-time faculty member at one of the following ranks, commensurate with qualifications and experience: instructor, senior instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, or professor. (The professorial ranks are tenure-track; the instructor ranks are not.)

The successful candidate will have a strong interest in establishing and administering the Master of Engineering in Systems Engineering program, teaching and mentoring graduate students, and fostering closer ties with local industry. The ideal applicant will have a deep understanding of the systems engineering discipline, industry experience, and significant academic experience: teaching systems engineering at the graduate level, developing new curricula, and offering courses with on-line components. Responsibilities will include oversight of a new professional master’s program, teaching, and service. An appointment at a professorial rank carries the additional responsibility of engaging in scholarly work.

Requirements: A master’s degree in systems engineering or a closely related discipline. A Ph.D. is required for appointment as an assistant professor, associate professor, or professor.

The Master of Engineering in Systems Engineering is being jointly developed by the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. These departments are housed within the College of Science and Engineering.  Both undergraduate programs are ABET accredited and support the university’s mission of educating the whole person, professional formation, and empowering leaders for a just and humane world.
