Department of Aerospace Engineering
The Department of Aerospace Engineering is one of eight academic departments in the Bagley College of Engineering. The department offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate program in aerospace engineering, as well as graduate studies leading to MS and PhD degrees. The department is composed of approximately 273 undergraduate and 62 graduate students, 13 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, 6 instructors, and 3 staff members. Faculty includes a member of the National Academy of Engineering and 13 faculty that are Fellows and/or Associate Fellows of national
technical organizations. Faculty members have developed strong research programs in materials and structures, fluid dynamics, computational simulations & design, and unmanned aerial systems and play a vital role in several college and university research centers such as the Raspet Flight Research Laboratory (www.raspet.msstate.edu), the FAA’s Center of Excellence for UAS Research (www.assureuas.org/), the High Performance Computing Collaboratory (www.hpc.msstate.edu/), the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (www.cavs.msstate.edu/), and a new Advanced Composites Institute. The undergraduate program offers concentrations in aeronautics and astronautics. The department actively engages students in research, as well as extracurricular experiences such as the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International Student UAS Competition, at which they placed first in 2008 and second in 2010. The “Space Cowboys” Rocket Design Team won the 2015 Intercollegiate Rocket and Engineering Competition which included over 50 teams from 7 nations and regularly receives the AIAA Community Outreach Award.
MSU (www.msstate.edu), a Carnegie Foundation Very High Research University, is a comprehensive public institution with more than 20,000 graduate and undergraduate students and approximately 1,300 full-time faculty members, located in Starkville, Mississippi (visit.starkville.org). The Bagley College of Engineering, with over 100 tenure-track/tenured faculty members, has an approximate enrollment of 3,450 undergraduate and 625 graduate students. It ranks 73rd nationally in research expenditures with 3 programs in the top 50.
The position is available beginning July 1, 2016, but the starting date is negotiable. The screening of candidates will begin January 4, 2016 and will continue until the position is filled.
