Faculty Position in Hybrid Electric Vehicles
Michigan Technological University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics (ME-EM) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. Outstanding applications with experience at the Associate Professor and Professor levels will also be considered. Applicants for the position must have earned doctorates in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field that contributes to the strategic initiatives of the department.

World-Class Research & Outstanding Colleagues
ME-EM seeks to attract exceptional candidates whose interests and capabilities align with recent initiatives in energy, specifically those with a research thrust in hybrid vehicle technologies such as powertrain systems and their components. This faculty position leverages existing and expanding facilities and a multidisciplinary undergraduate and graduate program (www.doe.mtu.edu/hybrid_vehicle_engineering). Available facilities include vehicle and powertrain component laboratories along with a mobile HEV lab for education and research. Successful candidates are expected to create and sustain an active research program, advise graduate students and develop and teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Michigan Tech is a state institution dedicated to both teaching and research, with an excellent reputation in engineering education and research.

For 2011, the U.S. News & World Report ranked the ME-EM Department’s Graduate Program 48th among doctoral-granting mechanical engineering departments in the US. For 2008 the Undergraduate Program was ranked 22nd among doctoral-granting mechanical engineering departments in the US. In the NSF Research Expenditure rankings for FY2008, the MEEM Department ranked 18th among all ME departments in the U.S. at $12.695 million. The Spring 2011 graduate student enrollment was 267, of which 103 are PhD students.
