The University of Virginia's Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering seeks a computer systems administrator for a Senior Information Technology Specialist position. The principal objective of this position is to direct the department's IT needs, to lead and administer the Computer System and Network of the department's computing facilities and to teach a computer and network introduction course. 

Requirements: Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Physical Sciences. Incumbent must have at least one year experience in directing and supporting the computing needs in an academic environment, including integrated circuit CAD software administration and security, maintenance, and disaster recovery. In addition, one year fulltime experience in computer and network administration including UNIX/Linux and Windows servers, desktops/laptops, mobile devices, network routers, Ethernet switches, modems and firewalls is required. 

Required Knowledge/Skills Abilities: Knowledge and in-depth understanding of the University and Departmental system policies and operating procedures. Manage UNIX/Linux systems; Manage Windows XP/Vista/7 systems; Troubleshoot TCP/IP; Write Perl; Administer mail server. Management or supervisory experience. Analytical problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Advanced knowledge of computer hardware and software. Must be able to work with a diverse group of people.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills Abilities: Familiarity with CAD software used in engineering classes and research (such as Cadence, Mentor Graphics, Synopsys, and Matlab, etc). UNIX shell scripting skills (Born, csh, ksh, bash), perl and C language. Familiarity with LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) web server platform and html web authoring tools.
