The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Virginia invites applications to fill a new tenure-track position in the broad area of sustainable infrastructure systems, starting in the summer of 2013. The position is expected to be filled at the assistant professor level but associate professor may be considered for those with a well-established academic record.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Virginia invites applications to fill a new tenure-track position in the broad area of sustainable infrastructure systems, starting in the summer of 2013. The position is expected to be filled at the assistant professor level but associate professor may be considered for those with a well-established academic record.

The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing efforts in our department to provide fundamental understanding of sustainable solutions to meet infrastructure challenges in one or more of the following areas:
· Transportation planning
· Public transportation
· Air or water impacts of transportation systems
· Complex infrastructure modeling
· Advanced information technology applications in civil engineering

Applicants working in other areas of transportation or infrastructure engineering will also be considered. The department has a well-established transportation research group and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with the Virginia Center for Transportation Innovation and Research (VCTIR).

Requirements: Candidates must possess an earned Doctorate in Civil or Environmental Engineering, and professional registration or ability to become registered is desirable. Preferred candidates will demonstrate a record of scholarly publications, strong teaching and communication skills, and a commitment to success within a diverse community.

Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in civil engineering. Establish and maintain an externally funded research program in collaboration with other members of the faculty and with the staff at VCTIR. Perform university and professional service.
