INSTITUTE: Arizona State University at the Polytechnic Campus
DEPARTMENT: College of Technology & Innovation
POSITION: Multiple
LINK: na
NOTES:
Multiple Faculty Positions in the College of Technology & Innovation
Arizona State University at the Polytechnic Campus

Applications for positions starting Fall 2011 are being sought for multiple tenure/tenure-track faculty in the College of Technology & Innovation (CTI) of Arizona State University (ASU) at the Polytechnic campus. We are seeking dynamic individuals eager to advance our strongly trans-disciplinary environment for scholarship and learning centered on engineering design and innovation as it applies across disciplinary boundaries.

Preference will be given to applicants with broad, multidisciplinary expertise at the assistant or associate professor level, although exceptional candidates at all levels will be considered. All applicants must have a Ph.D. in an area that resonates with CTI’s vision and strengths. Of particular interest are candidates with a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Science Education, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Design, Engineering Education, or a related discipline. Also required, commensurate with desired rank, is a record and evidence of effective and innovative teaching, research, and other scholarly activities appropriate to CTI’s mission. Candidates should look forward to engaging undergraduate and graduate students in a hands-on educational setting with intensive team-based projects. Evidence of connection to practice/industry is important. We will consider high quality candidates in all fields appropriate for engineering or engineering technology within CTI, but preference will be given to the following disciplinary areas:

- Civil Engineering: Applications are invited from candidates who possess a broad skill set within all areas of civil engineering. Applicants must have an interest in development of innovative, highly creative and rigorous learning models that emphasize team-based projects, written, visual and oral communication, social and economic perspectives of design, and all other components of modern civil engineering
professional practice.

- Computing and Graphic Technologies: Expertise that spans modeling, animation, simulation, imaging, gaming, user-centered web design, and embedded systems that integrate multimedia communications.

- Electrical Engineering/Technology: Expertise in the application of electronic systems that integrate across the following areas is desired: alternative energies, motion and robotics, and power electronics. The college offers interdisciplinary undergraduate and masters programs in engineering and engineering technology, computing studies, technological entrepreneurship and innovation, and a Ph.D. program in simulation, modeling and applied cognitive science. We seek candidates who will contribute to the on-going development of CTI into a premier program in a public setting. Successful candidates will be expected to engage in scholarship and teaching, and excel in a hands-on, project-based curriculum using modern, empirically vetted pedagogical practice. Successful candidates will also participate fully in the collective responsibilities of the faculty, which include curriculum design and implementation, continuous improvement and assessment, and faculty governance appropriate to the department mission and consistent with the department values.

Interested candidates must submit 1) a letter of application clearly indicating desired rank and area(s) of interest. The letter must explicitly address how the candidate’s background, interests and experience align with the mission of CTI, 2) a curriculum vitae, 3) statements of teaching and scholarship limited to one page each, and 4) names and contact information of at least 3 references.

Submit applications by e-mail in a single PDF file to Engr-Search@asu.edu. Please include “job number 9674” in the subject line of the email. Application deadline is December 27th, 2010; if not filled, reviews will occur every two weeks thereafter until search is closed. For further information contact Dr. Ann McKenna, Chair of the Search Committee at Engr-Search@asu.edu.

About ASU and the College of Technology & Innovation
Arizona State University has developed a new model for the American research university, creating an institution that is committed to excellence, access and impact. ASU pursues research that contributes to the public good; and ASU assumes major responsibility for the economic, social and cultural vitality of the communities that surround it. ASU has made recent news by ranking 5th on a list of the top universities favored by employers for job recruiting, and being named one of America's Best College Buys by Forbes magazine in its 2010 edition of "America's Best Colleges." Moreover, U.S. News and World Report ranked ASU in the top tier of national universities in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011, and second among "Up-and-Coming Schools," in the 2011 edition of "America’s Best Colleges" — a new ranking highlighting "schools to watch" in terms of promising and innovative changes in academics, faculty, students, campus life, diversity and facilities.

ASU at the Polytechnic Campus enrolls more than 9,000 students on a 600-acre campus in a beautiful desert arboretum in the growing Gateway region on the southeast edge of the Greater Phoenix metropolitan area. The College of Technology & Innovation embodies the polytechnic values of engaged learning, applied research, engagement with industry, and innovation and entrepreneurship. The academic facilities are among the best that ASU has to offer and were designed specifically to advance the polytechnic learning and
discovery environment.

The vision of CTI is to innovate at the confluence of science, engineering, and business both in the conceptualization of our academic programs and in our approach to knowledge discovery and application. We have a strong commitment to a human-centered focus in the design, creation, and use of technology. We believe that innovation and entrepreneurship thrive when science, engineering, and technology are informed by human strengths and limitations.

The College of Technology and Innovation is enjoying a period of substantial growth and now enrolls more than 2,300 students majoring in undergraduate and graduate degree programs in applied science, engineering, technology, cognitive science, entrepreneurship and innovation management. The programs thrive under the guidance of more than 100 outstanding faculty members with expertise in many of the most important technological challenges that society faces. Many members of the faculty bring considerable industrial experience to bear on their teaching and research. The College is home to one of the most innovative engineering programs in the country and some of the most advanced learning facilities available to students on any university campus.
