The School of Engineering at the University of California at Merced has three Assistant Professor faculty positions open and invites applications for the areas of:

Computational mechanics, solid mechanics and structural dynamics. Candidates with proven expertise in the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: finite-element modeling, optimization and computational mechanics of solids, smart materials and structural dynamics. Position # ASENG2939A.

Energy systems, with particular interest in energy storage. Candidates with proven expertise in the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: storage technologies for renewable energy sources (solar, wind, biomass, etc.), next generation alternate fuels and smart energy technologies for the built environment. Position # ASENG2952A.

Energy materials, including solar, battery, fuel cell, and energy-harvesting applications. Candidates with proven expertise in nanomaterials synthesis for energy generation, conversion, storage, or delivery are particularly encouraged to apply. Position # ASENG2957A.

A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (in Materials Engineering for the energy materials position) or a closely related field and demonstrated excellence in research are required. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2011 and the deadline for submission of application is 1/15/2011.
