Mississippi State University is the largest university in the State of Mississippi with approximately 1300 faculty and 20,000 students. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering has 17 tenure-track faculty positions and offers academic programs leading to the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in computer science and bachelor’s degrees in software engineering and computer engineering. There are about 425 undergraduates in these majors and about 90 graduate students. The Department also cooperates with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in offering master’s and doctoral degrees in computer engineering, and participates in the interdisciplinary program in computational engineering leading to master’s and doctoral degrees. The department’s research focus areas are artificial intelligence and computational biology, high performance computing, graphics and visualization, software engineering, and computer security and forensics.
