The Department of Biomedical, Industrial & Human Factors Engineering (BIE) is one of four departments in the College of Engineering & Computer Science. The department is home to ABET accredited undergraduate degree programs in Industrial & Systems Engineering and in Biomedical Engineering. The department currently has 11 faculty members, 220 undergraduate students, 90 Master’s students and 35 Ph.D. students and had over $5 million in external research awards last year. Active research projects in Industrial & Human Factors Engineering are being conducted in several areas, including: aviation human factors, human computer interaction, virtual environments, health systems, simulation‐based optimization, interactive systems modeling, human‐haptic informatic modeling, supply chain systems analysis, optimization modeling, transportation, to name a few. Wright State University, an institution of 19,700 students, is located in a growing high‐tech suburban community and is surrounded by commercial and government research and development facilities and a large number of health‐care networks.
