Applications are invited for multiple tenured/tenure-track faculty at all ranks in the Department of Industrial Engineering (IE) within the Whitacre College of Engineering (COE), Texas Tech University (TTU), Lubbock, TX. Exceptional candidates may also be considered for endowed positions. Founded in 1934, the department is one of the first IE departments in the nation and the first in the state of Texas. The department has a distinguished history of outstanding scholarship, with recent funding from NSF, DOE, ONR, DOD and NIH, as well as for offering excellent, personalized educational opportunities. The department offers an ABET-accredited BSIE (130 students enrolled in 2012-2013) and a MS and PhD in both IE and Systems and Engineering Management (SYEM) (110 total students enrolled in 2012-2013, with more than half PhD). In particular, the SYEM program, which is offered both on campus as well as via distance learning, was recently ranked #17 for online engineering management degrees by SuperScholar.org. The Department of Industrial Engineering has numerous laboratory facilities, including manufacturing, ergonomics and materials characterization.

TTU is a comprehensive Tier I research institution that includes law and medical schools with an enrollment of more than 30,000 students total. TTU was recently ranked #18 in a Wall Street Journal survey of recruiters and is home to the internationally-recognized National Wind Institute (NWI) among other research centers. The Whitacre COE consists of the Departments of Chemical, Civil, Construction, Electrical & Computer, Industrial, Mechanical, Petroleum Engineering and Computer Science. Total enrollment in COE is approximately 3,900 undergraduate and 750 graduate students.

The Lubbock metro-area has over 280,000 residents as of the 2012 census and is the major economic and medical center of the surrounding region. Lubbock’s 3,250 foot elevation results in a mild and sunny climate. Numerous opportunities are present for both cultural and outdoor activities, such as theatre, visual arts, biking and hiking. In addition, Lubbock provides frequent connections on major airlines, such as American, Southwest, and United.

Successful candidates must possess a Ph.D. in IE or closely related field, be eligible to work in the United States, and have excellent communication skills. Candidates should also demonstrate abilities in high quality research for competitive funding, teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses (including distance education), advising PhD students, and providing appropriate service to the department, university and the profession. The department is seeking applicants in all areas of IE, particularly human factors, manufacturing, operations research, and systems and engineering management.
