ASSISTANT, ASSOCIATE, OR FULL PROFESSOR FACULTY POSITION
in HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY & SIMULATION
The University of Tennessee Knoxville, College of Nursing provides an unique opportunity for a tenure-track position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the Health Information Technology and Simulation (HITS) Laboratory. HITS is an innovative interprofessional research environment, advancing health information technology and simulation science. HITS has developed strong partnerships with the College of Engineering, the Graduate School of Medicine, and the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (http://ibme.utk.edu) with parallel research focus in Healthcare engineering. HITS also engages in research with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, located 20 miles from campus, and the publishing and manufacturing industry including Laerdal, Lippincott, Wilkins & Williams and Stanley Healthcare. The HITS lab is housed in the newly constructed 7600 square-foot state-of-the-art academic and education facility. The goal of the lab is to advance the science of health information technology and ways to enhance consumer and professional health education (http://ilab.engr.utk.edu/hits).
As the state’s flagship school, the University of Tennessee Knoxville is home to over 100 research institutes and centers and numerous specialized research laboratories and consortia. Student enrollment totals more than 27,000 and research funding surpasses $188 million. Located near the Great Smoky Mountains and numerous lakes, Knoxville offers abundant recreational attractions, cultural attractions such as opera and symphony, low cost of living, and high quality residential neighborhoods.
We seek candidates with expertise in one or more of a wide range of specialties that will contribute to the HITS Lab emphases in (1) Research and development of healthcare related products; (2) Integration of non-traditional technology into the healthcare environment; (3) Engagement in telehealth and simulation research; and (4) Development of inter-professional research and collaborations.
Responsibilities include: (1) conducting research in one of the areas mentioned above, (2) developing funding
opportunities with campus, state, national and international organizations, (3) coordinating with HITS leadership team to develop; and foster academic partnerships to develop the University’s health information resources and to support faculty mentoring, and (4) teaching in courses in health courses based on candidate’s expertise.
The College of Nursing offers:
- Teaching assignments in traditional BSN, accelerated BSN, and RN-BSN programs, MSN and PhD and DNP programs
- Center for Health Science Research, Health Information Technology and Simulation (HITS)
- Nurse-managed School-based Health Center
- State of the Art Simulation Center with telehealth communications
- Mentorship and grant writing support at both College and University levels
- Earned doctorate in technology, engineering or health related field.
- Professional experience commensurate with rank
- Evidence of research or creative activities
- Research interest/experience in Health Information Technology and/or Simulation
- Eligibility for RN licensure in Tennessee
