The Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE) Department at San José State University is seeking a tenure-track faculty member in the areas of Big Data analytics. Specifically, the candidate should possess expertise in the use of statistical methods and models and computational techniques for model building, analysis, and evaluation such as Bayesian analysis, linear and logistical regression, time series analysis, decision tree analysis, and k-means clustering, generic algorithms, simulation annealing, as applied to big data in service business or across the healthcare industry from pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, clinics and hospitals, to integrated delivery systems.
The University seeks to dramatically expand its faculty working in the area big data analytics by hiring a cluster of new faculty members in this area. The University seeks people who are able to initiate and participate in interdisciplinary collaborations in these areas, and who are skilled researchers and teachers in one of the following areas: Industrial and Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics, or Management Information Science.
As part of this initiative, the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department at San José State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in industrial and systems engineering in data analytics analysis and optimization of large data sets.

Qualifications:
An earned Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related Engineering discipline is required. The department offers a broad range of course topics to its students; however the person selected for this position will be expected to be focused in Statistical methods and Models to Analyze Big Data. In addition, it would be an advantage if the persons applying for this position were well versed in one or more of these areas of healthcare engineering, engineering management or systems engineering. Preference will be given to applicants holding at least one degree in Industrial Engineering. Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation through course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
Responsibilities:
The person selected for this tenure-track position will be responsible for teaching in the
undergraduate and graduate programs, for student advising including advising Masters projects
and theses, and for developing a research program related to his/her field of interest. In addition,
the appointee will actively participate in strengthening the present ties between the ISE
Department and its surrounding high tech industries and will embark on establishing new
connections with high tech companies. The appointee will also participate in Department, College,
and Department committee assignments and service activities that connect the Department to the
College of Engineering and the rest of the campus.
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Starting Date: August 19, 2014
