The Department has 12 full-time tenured/tenure-track faculty, 140 undergraduates, and 30 graduate students. The research areas are open for this position. The faculty member will complement our work in Biocatalysis, Biomaterials, Biomedical Engineering, Synthetic Biology, Electrochemical Engineering, Water Desalination, Separations, Nanomaterials, Inorganic materials, Fuel Cells, and Polymers.

The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering resides in a $24 million building that was built in 2003. It features the latest in research laboratory design, including a modern and well-equipped bio-process manufacturing facility, a state-of-the-art computer control system for laboratories; and next-generation distance education technology. In addition to this building, the University has a $13.8 million Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience (NCMN) collaborative facility that was completed in 2011. NCMN is a multidisciplinary organization with over 90 faculty members. Research areas include: material properties at the nanoscale, self-assembly, ordered nanoarrays, quantum dots and wires, nanoelectronics, quantum computing, nanomechanics, nanooptics, molecular design, nanoelectro-mechanical systems, and nanobiological function and life sciences.

Job Summary:
The Program Director for Faculty Research Development (PDFRD) has the primary responsibility for enhancing research at the Institute for Research on Women and Gender (IRWG) at the University of Michigan. The PDFRD works under the direction of the Director of IRWG.

Founded in 1995, IRWG is an interdisciplinary research unit that supports U-M faculty and students in their research on women, gender, and sexuality. In addition, IRWG sponsors a variety of speakers and events to foster intellectual exploration and social change.

This position requires an academic with a broad, interdisciplinary understanding of research and scholarship, the ability to communicate collegially and knowledgeably with faculty in an array of disciplines that use diverse methodological approaches.  It also requires the establishment and maintenance of informed scholarly contact with funding agency program officers in both public and private funding sectors.

Responsibilities: The specific duties include: assisting faculty in generating effective and fundable extramural proposals; providing detailed grant proposal development assistance through all stages of proposal conceptual development and refinement, including technical writing assistance; identifying key funding opportunities and building relationships with funders and decision-makers; coordinating with institutional research administration and leadership; providing funding source searches for faculty as needed; designing, conducting, and participating in grant development workshops and other interventions with faculty.

Required Qualifications: Candidates should have completed a Ph.D. in the social sciences, humanities or health sciences, and have experience in grant development and scholarly writing.  We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
