FACULTY POSITION IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), invites applicants to apply for a tenured/tenure-track position to be filled by August 2014 at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is looking for an outstanding individual who can help the department strengthen its teaching and research programs. Applicants are sought in the broad research area of robotics and mechatronics, with subfields of interest to include, but not limited to: medical robotics and devices, mechanisms and design, human-machine interaction and haptics, manufacturing, or dynamic systems and controls.

The successful candidate is expected to build a successful, externally-funded research program. The candidate must be able to develop and teach innovative courses, supervise graduate students, obtain funding for their research programs, and communicate their research results in quality journals and at conferences. The ability to work collaboratively in research and teaching within the department or with the other departments within the College of Engineering is required.  Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. Candidates for Assistant Professor must have a strong commitment to research and a Ph.D. degree must be completed by the time of employment. Candidates for Associate Professor must have proven research records and significant, transferable extramural funding.

The city of San Antonio is a vibrant city of more than 1.3 million inhabitants, with significant economic growth, numerous industrial establishments and excellent school districts. The City and the University provide excellent cultural and educational opportunities as well as exceptional employment opportunities for spouses. The University has more than 31,000 students and is the third largest component in the University of Texas System. The College of Engineering at UTSA was established in 2000 and currently houses four departments. The ME Department is a fast-growing research oriented Department and has a projected faculty of 25+ with current programs at the bachelor, master and doctoral level. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in externally funded research and industry research consortium via the Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Lean Systems (http://camls.utsa.edu/), and the Center for Simulation, Visualization, and Real-Time Prediction  http://sivirt.utsa.edu).

The Search Committee will begin review of applications immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The target start date is August 2014.  Applicants must submit the following materials:
