Assistant or
Associate Professor in Mechanical & Industrial Engineering
The Department of Mechanical and
Industrial Engineering (M&IE) at Montana State University invites
applications and nominations from outstanding individuals for a tenure-track
position in Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at the Assistant or
Associate Professor level.
The new
faculty member will be expected to contribute to excellence in both
undergraduate and graduate teaching in the M&IE Department, develop a
nationally-recognized externally-funded scholarly program in the focus area,
and collaborate with MSU’s research centers and regional partners. Other
responsibilities include advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate
students, participation in accreditation activities and committee assignments,
and service to the university, state, and profession.
Required qualifications include:
1. Earned
Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering,
Industrial Engineering, or closely related field by date of hire.
2. Record
of quality peer-reviewed and other scholarly publications
4. Outstanding
potential for developing a nationally recognized, externally funded scholarly
program in the area of focus.
5. Demonstrated
ability to engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside the
department.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:

An ability to complement existing focus areas of
the Department, College and University, such as Design and Manufacturing (e.g.,
CAD, design for manufacturability, additive manufacturing), Dynamics and
Controls (e.g., mechatronics, robotics, vehicle dynamics), Energy
(e.g., building energy systems, energy materials, energy optimization), or Materials
(e.g., engineering polymers, biological polymers).

Good understanding of engineering fundamentals,
including engineering design.
·
Effective teamwork, and interpersonal and
communication skills.
·
An ability to lead and conduct, high quality
scholarship in an interdisciplinary environment.
·
Interest in student success and commitment to
quality teaching.
·
Commitment to advancing student, faculty, staff,
and intellectual diversity.
