Job Description:
The Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering (SSIE) in the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University (The State University of New York at Binghamton) invites applications for a faculty member, at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level, in Data Science/Big Data Analytics starting in September 2016. The Watson School is dedicated to the goal of building a diverse and inclusive teaching, research, and working environment. The position involves teaching at all levels from undergraduate courses to advanced graduate courses, and establishing theoretical and applied research in the area of Data Science/Big Data Analytics.
The SSIE Department secures over 2.5 million dollars in research funding per year. Our faculty members work collaboratively with over 24 sponsors from industry and federal agencies. With an excellent and growing academic reputation, the SSIE Department is internationally renowned in the electronics manufacturing/electronics packaging arena. Another area of substantial growth is health systems, and our faculty works with several major healthcare organizations across the nation and abroad. The department is continuing significant expansion, with four additional faculty positions, including this position.
The department currently has eighteen faculty members and offers a BS degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE), MEng degrees in IE and SE, and MS and PhD Degrees in both Systems Science and Industrial and Systems Engineering (or ISE). SSIE also offers a cutting edge executive health systems program in Manhattan. With about 235 undergraduate, 232 masters and 102 doctoral students, the department is growing in numbers and in its reputation. The successful candidate for this position will be expected to help increase the number of women, underrepresented minorities and persons with disabilities, as well as help increase external funding to support diverse populations. Located in Binghamton, NY, we are ideally situated in the high-tech heart of the state. Industry partnerships, class projects and internship opportunities provide a wealth of hands-on experience for graduate and undergraduate students alike.
This is an affiliated position for the University's Smart Energy and/or Health Sciences Transdisciplinary Areas of Excellence (TAE). The successful candidate will contribute to the development of this TAE as an area of research and teaching. The search committee will include members of the Smart Energy and/or Health Sciences TAE steering committee as well as from the Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering. Requirements:

The candidate must have a doctoral degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering or a closely related field as well as good leadership skills, and should have an excellent record of scholarly publications. The candidate is expected to have a high potential to initiate and sustain an externally funded multi-disciplinary research program and to take a major role in the area of Data Science/Big Data Analytics are required, with applications in areas that include, but are not limited to, health systems, energy, or enterprise systems. Teaching experience is preferred. Demonstrated commitment to the diversity of students, faculty and staff, and to advancing an inclusive climate that stimulates excellence is preferred.
