POSITION: Professor and Chair
NOTES:
The College of Engineering at the University of South Florida invites applications and nominations for the position of Professor and Chair in the Department of Chemical & Biomedical Engineering.
The new chair will have a unique opportunity to impact the direction and trajectory of a department with a vibrant research environment, a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, and a strong record of engagement with industrial and community partners. The position is expected to commence August 2016. The University of South Florida is a high-impact, global research university dedicated to student success. USF is a Top 50 research university among both public and private institutions nationwide in total research expenditures, according to the National Science Foundation. Serving nearly 48,000 students, the USF System has an annual budget of $1.5 billion and an annual economic impact of $4.4 billion. USF is a member of the American Athletic Conference. The Department has sixteen (16) faculty members and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering as well as M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biomedical Engineering. The faculty members have strong collaborations with all departments within the College of Engineering, as well as the Colleges of Medicine, Arts & Sciences, Behavioral and Community Sciences and Education. In addition, the faculty members have strong ties with several centers and institutes at USF, which include leadership roles in the Global Center for Hearing and Speech Research, Clean Energy Research Center, Florida Energy Systems Consortium, and Functional Materials Research Institute. Strong collaborations exist with members of the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, Center for Assistive Rehabilitation Robotics & Technologies, Center for Wireless and Microwave Information Systems, and USF Health Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute. QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals, and be a recognized authority in the field of specialization.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates should qualify to be appointed as a tenured full professor with expertise in chemical engineering. Applicants are expected to have established research enterprises that are well-funded and recognized nationally and internationally. Preference will be given to candidates from U.S. programs and institutions with significant record of scholarship in a department with undergraduate and graduate degree programs in chemical engineering. Experience working in a multicultural and diverse environment will be considered a strength. Preferred candidates will have a record of leadership and increasing administrative and management responsibilities, which may include leading a large federally-funded research group or center, holding an Associate Chair position, directing proposal and awards management at federal agencies, or similar assignments.
