Appointment to this position will carry the rank of Assistant Professor commensurate with teaching and research experience. Position is available beginning Fall, 2011. Lecture-laboratory teaching duties (24 contacts/2 semesters, summer separate contract if desired) will include broad-based, junior level courses in developmental biology and histology, and other animal-based courses. The candidate may be expected to teach courses in molecular cell biology, bioinformatics, molecular genetics or freshmen major and non-major biology sequences.
The candidate will be expected to carry out sustained scholarly research in developmental biology involving undergraduate students, preferably in an interdisciplinary environment with other faculty with backgrounds in physiology, molecular genetics, microbiology, ecology, chemistry and environmental engineering. The candidate also will assume the full range of faculty responsibilities including research training of students, academic advising and service on committees. Facilities are available for undergraduate instructional and research activities including a 55 acre woods, molecular laboratory, GIS laboratory, GC-MS, HPLC, ICP and 400mHz NMR.
Candidates should posses an advanced degree, preferably the doctorate in developmental biology, histology or related field with expertise in molecular biology. The candidate should have a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, a dynamic interest in research that involves undergraduates and providing service to the community. Preference will be given to candidates with previous teaching experience at the college level. Salary is commensurate with credentials.
