INSTITUTION: Southern Illinois University
HIRING DEPARTMENT: Physics
POSITION: (3) Assistant Professors (tenure track)
LINK: NA
NOTES:
The Department of Physics (www.siue.edu/PHYSICS) at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville seeks candidates for three tenure-track Assistant Professor positions higher academic ranks may be considered) in the areas of Biophysics, Atomic-Molecular-Optics Theory, and Condensed Matter beginning Fall 2011. SIUE has a tradition for teaching excellence. Candidates are expected to demonstrate: a passion for teaching, a capability of teaching at all levels of the curriculum, and develop and sustain a program of research. The department requires the participation of undergraduates in its research programs. All faculty members are expected to mentor students, engage in productive scholarship, and serve on departmental committees. The department plans to develop a professional graduate program.

**The department welcomes applications from couples or partners.**

Biophysics: SIUE seeks to start a biomedical/biophysics program to complement strong basic science, health science and engineering programs. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent research program in any subfield of biophysics. Preference will be given to candidates whose research interests complement current SIUE research programs.

Atomic-Molecular-Optics Theory: The Department of Physics seeks a candidate who will develop an independent research program in AMO theory. Preference will be given to candidates whose research interests complement
the departmental strength in optics/photonics.

Condensed Matter: The Department of Physics seeks a candidate who will develop an independent research program in any subfield of condensed matter physics. Preference will be given to candidates whose research interests complement current faculty research.

The successful candidates must hold a Doctorate. This may be in Physics or a closely related field. The doctoral degree must be complete prior to the candidate commencing employment at SIUE. Experience working in the field (in scholarship and/or teaching) beyond that associated with the doctoral degree is highly desirable.

Review of applications will begin on November 22, 2010 and continue until the positions are filled.
