Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment invites applications for a faculty position in Marine Ecology. The mission of the Nicholas School is to create knowledge and leaders of consequence for a sustainable future. Our focus is on leadership in education, research, and service to understand environmental processes, to understand human behavior related to the environment, and to inform society about the conservation and enhancement of the environment and its natural resources for future generations. This position will be based in the Division of Marine Science and Conservation and located at the Duke University Marine Laboratory, a vibrant intellectual community situated in Beaufort, North Carolina.

We seek a broadly trained ecologist with interests in the conservation of marine populations, species and ecosystems. The successful candidate will have a highly promising or distinguished record of research and a demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary scholarship. We are particularly interested in individuals whose work spans disciplinary boundaries and who are enthusiastic about working in an interdisciplinary setting that includes natural and social scientists and engineers.

The appointment may be made at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level. We seek candidates with a demonstrated record or exceptional promise of extramural funding, achievement and leadership in this field. Exceptional candidates will be considered for a University Professorship, reserved for scholars with demonstrated ability to transcend disciplines by producing superb scholarship in more than one area. The candidate will be expected to teach at the undergraduate level, to mentor Ph.D. and professional masters students and to support a vigorous, extramurally funded research program.
