The Department of Civil, Environmental and Geodetic Engineering (CEGE) and the City and Regional Planning (CRP) Section of the Knowlton School of Architecture (KSA) at The Ohio State University invite applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank in smart urban systems. The position will be filled jointly between the Department of CEGE and the KSA CRP Section, both in the College of Engineering. The majority of the affiliation and the tenure initiating unit will be in the Department of CEGE.

The position is focused on urban infrastructure systems, and in particular on the use of automated sensing, big data, and computational technologies to facilitate an improved evolution of infrastructure systems in the built urban environment while accounting for the complex physical and behavioral interactions they embody. Applications could be geared towards planning, design, monitoring, management, or operations with a focus on mobility and accessibility, public health, safety, or energy efficiency. This position is partially funded by The Ohio State University's Discovery Themes Initiative, a significant faculty hiring investment in key thematic areas in which the university can build on its culture of academic collaboration to make a global impact.

The successful candidate is expected to develop an active research program, effectively teach undergraduate and graduate courses of interest to both the Department of CEGE and the KSA CRP Section, supervise and mentor graduate students and underrepresented groups, and be involved in service within the university and in appropriate professional communities. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact and collaborate with members of multi-disciplinary centers and initiatives at The Ohio State University, including the Center for Automotive Research, the Center for Urban and Regional Analysis, the Center for Resilience, the Office of Energy and Environment, the Center for Sustainability, and the campus-wide interdisciplinary initiative expanding faculty expertise in data analytics. An earned doctoral degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, city and regional planning, or a closely related field is required prior to the anticipated start date of August 2015.
