DEAN OF THE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, MATHEMATICS, AND SCIENCE

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science (EMS). UW-Platteville is the fastest-growing university in the University of Wisconsin System. Total enrollment is 8,805 (including 7,975 undergraduates).   The University is a primarily undergraduate institution, offering 42 majors and 71 minors in three colleges: Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture (BILSA), Engineering, Mathematics and Science (EMS), and Liberal Arts and Education (LAE). JOB DETAILS:

The Dean is the chief executive and academic officer of the College and reports to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the College's financial resources and external relations and is expected to provide vision and leadership resulting in significant increases in resource acquisition for the College from private gifts, grants, contracts, and other sources of revenue.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will be a visionary leader and must have:
  • A doctoral degree in one of the College's disciplines and an academic record of accomplishment in teaching, research/professional development, and service consistent with an appointment as a tenured professor in one of the College's departments
  • A demonstrated record of effective administrative leadership and classroom teaching experience in higher education
  • Outstanding organizational and communication skills
  • A demonstrated record of leadership in team building and strategic planning
  • A demonstrated commitment to or experience with gender, racial, ethnic and demographically diverse populations
  • A background in developing external relationships  and a demonstrated record of fund raising and complex fund management
  • Experience with accreditation and a familiarity with the ABET accreditation process and/or other STEM focused accreditation.
  • An established commitment to promoting excellence in teaching and learning, research, outreach, and engagement with community and industrial partners.
  • An understanding of shared governance and a commitment to foster shared governance at UW-Platteville.

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

The College of EMS serves 3,300 undergraduate students on-campus, 325 graduate students in the online Master of Engineering program, and 250 undergraduates in the Collaborative Engineering Program. The Collaborative Engineering Program offers two engineering degrees at thirteen sites around the state. The College has also partnered with two other universities to offer a unique international Master of Computer Science program. The College has 167 employees, including 139 faculty and instructional staff members in the following academic departments:

The College of EMS is characterized by its emphasis on undergraduate education. New majors have recently been developed in Sustainable and Renewable Energy Systems and in Microsystems and Nanotechnology. The College is home to the UW System Nanotechnology Center for Collaborative Research and Development. Student success and access are priorities for the College as evidenced by the inclusion of a department of student services focused on student access and success within the College. This department supports faculty-based academic advising initiatives, houses the nationally award-winning Women in Engineering, Mathematics, and Science Program, and has supported a 65% growth in the number of women in the College in the last four years.
