Faculty Position in Clinical Informatics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in clinical informatics at either the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have a joint position with the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering in the College of Engineering. The faculty member will be expected to develop a strong research program in clinical informatics. Research areas of particular interest include (but are not limited to): clinical decision support, clinical research informatics, clinical workflow and human factors, comparative effectiveness, EHRs and data warehouses, mobile devices, and evaluation methods in informatics. Teaching responsibilities will include courses in clinical informatics in the School of Medicine and Public Health and in the College of Engineering. The faculty member will also participate in professional, public, and university service appropriate to the faculty rank. The University of Wisconsin‐Madison is a world‐class academic institution with an international reputation for basic, applied and interdisciplinary research. UW‐Madison has recently surpassed the $1 billion mark in annual research expenditures and ranks third in the nation in science and engineering expenditures.
The university has a deep culture of collaborative interdisciplinary research. UW‐Madison is one of 18 institutions funded by a National Library of Medicine Training Grant for biomedical informatics.
The Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics has more than 30 faculty members whose research and teaching interests span a wide array of areas in biostatistics, bioinformatics, image analysis, and health informatics. Members of the department are involved in collaborative projects with scientists and clinicians from a large number of departments and centers across the UW campus and the state, including the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, the Carbone Cancer Center, the Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation, the Genome Center of Wisconsin, and the Wisconsin Genomics Initiative.
The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering has more than 20 faculty members, including five who have research interests in developing innovative solutions to critical health care problems while contributing to advancements in decision science, decision support systems and quality research. Members of the department are involved in a number of research centers, including the Center for Health Enhancement Systems Studies, the Center for Health Systems Research and Analysis, the Center for Quality and Productivity Improvement, and the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery. The department is regularly ranked first in external research funding per faculty member among industrial engineering departments.
