Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications and nominations for the Dean of the School of Engineering. This position reports to the Provost and provides academic and administrative leadership of the school, and works closely with the other academic deans. The dean is responsible for fiscal and personnel management, strategic planning, resource development and advancement, and encouraging diversity and educational equity in the School of Engineering.

The dean is expected to provide visionary leadership to promote academic excellence through teaching and research. The dean is required to recruit and retain excellent faculty and staff, enhance student success, strengthen graduate programs--with particular emphasis on doctoral programs--and elevate research activity.

VCU is one of the states largest universities and ranks among the top universities in the country in sponsored research. Located on two downtown campuses in Richmond, VCU enrolls more than 32,000 students in 211 certificate and degree programs in the arts, sciences and humanities. The successful candidates must have earned an appropriate Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree, significant experience in academic leadership, and a record of substantive professional accomplishments. The selected candidate will have a demonstrable teaching and research record commensurate with the rank of full professor as well as strong credentials in managing academic programs. In addition, it is desired that the applicant demonstrate strong innovative and entrepreneurial leadership, experience with interdisciplinary research programs as well as collaborative, interpersonal, and proven resource development skills. Demonstrated commitment to and success in achieving faculty, staff and student diversity is required.
