The Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Louisville is seeking candidates for two tenure-track faculty positions at the assistant professor rank.
The J.B. Speed School of Engineering is implementing an ambitious new strategic plan with a vision of excellence in engineering education, research, and community engagement. The plan calls for a major investment in the School’s faculty, to ensure a thriving academic enterprise with significant growth in research and scholarly profiles. The Department of Industrial Engineering will play a key role in realizing the Speed School’s vision of excellence, and is seeking candidates for two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of assistant professor. In alignment with the School’s plan for a strategic expansion of strengths in the areas of Advanced Manufacturing, Logistics and Engineering Human Health, there is strong interest in applications from individuals who specialize in additive manufacturing, ergonomics/human factors, or logistics systems; however, exceptionally qualified individuals who specialize in any area of Industrial Engineering may be considered. Major responsibilities associated with these positions include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, supervising the research of graduate students at the master’s and doctoral levels, conducting independent scholarly research, publishing in peer reviewed journals, and acquiring external funding to support the research effort. A Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering or a closely related field is required for the position. Although applications will be accepted until the positions are filled, review of applicants will begin in November 2012, since it is very important to have them filled by July 1, 2013.

The Department of Computer Science offers B.S., B.A., M.S. and Ph.D. degree programs in Computer Science, and an M.S. degree program in Cybersecurity. Embarked on a rapid growth process, the Department has hired nine tenure-track professors in the past four years, plans to continue hiring for the next several years, and will soon be housed in a $275M, 500,000 sq. ft., state-of-the-art building along with other engineering and natural science departments. Currently, the Department has 20 regular faculty members, numerous affiliated and adjunct faculty members, and over 650 students. Texas Tech University is a comprehensive institution with an enrollment of more than 30,000 students that includes law and medical schools.  The College of Engineering consists of the Departments of Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Construction Engineering & Engineering Technology, Electrical & Computer, Industrial, Mechanical, and Petroleum Engineering.  Enrollment in the college is approximately 3,900 undergraduates and 750 graduate students.  The Department of Industrial Engineering has approximately 110 undergraduates and 110 graduate students, more than half of whom are doctoral students.  The Department of Industrial Engineering has 16 faculty positions with major academic and research thrusts in ergonomics, manufacturing systems, quality/reliability, operations research, engineering management, cyber security, data engineering and software engineering. The department offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate program in industrial engineering, as well as graduate studies leading to MS and PhD degrees in Industrial Engineering and MS and PhD degrees in Systems and Engineering Management.  The Systems and Engineering Management degrees are offered both on campus as well as via distance learning.    

Lubbock, a city of over 225,000, is a major economic and medical center on the Texas South Plains.  Its 3,250 foot elevation results in a mild and sunny climate.  Numerous opportunities are present for both cultural and outdoor activities, such as theatre, visual arts, biking and hiking. In addition, Lubbock has its own airport (Preston Smith International) which provides frequent connections on major airlines, such as American Airlines, Southwest, and Continental/United.
