Position
Description: The
University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is seeking to fill a tenure-track faculty
position at the Assistant Professor level for its growing, dynamic Department
of Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering. Applications are
solicited from candidates whose research interests are focused on Healthcare
Systems and align with the thrust area of Human Factors.
Responsibilities
include teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active research agenda
and secure extramural funding in support of research activities. Anticipated
appointment date is Fall 2013.
The Department: The Department of Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems
Engineering (http://imse.utep.edu) consists
of eight faculty members specializing in operations research, reliability and
maintainability, systems engineering, supply chain management, human factors,
and ergonomics. The Department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in
Industrial Engineering and Master of Science degrees in Industrial Engineering,
Manufacturing Engineering, and Systems Engineering. The department participates
in several interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs in the College of Engineering (COE)
and is developing an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Manufacturing
Engineering for implementation in Fall 2013. Current departmental enrollment
includes 115 undergraduates and 117 graduate students. Research expenditures
last year were nearly $2.8 million.
Over
the past three years, the department has experienced the fastest research
expenditures growth in the COE through major grants/contracts with USDA, DoED,
DHS, NSF, the City of El Paso, NIST, Fort Bliss and LMC-Aeronautics. The
increase in research expenditures indicates the IMSE faculty commitment to
research in the strategic COE areas of Sustainability, Manufacturing,
Infrastructure Systems, and Energy Systems. The Department is closely
affiliated with the Research Institute for Manufacturing and Engineering
Systems (http://rimes.utep.edu/), which
has strong relationships with industrial and government partners. Additionally,
the Department has ongoing collaborations with the Texas Tech University Health
Science Center, local school districts, hospitals, international and national
universities, and other UTEP departments. Excellent manufacturing and
analytical research facilities exist within the College (http://engineering.utep.edu),
specifically in the area of healthcare/ biomedical engineering. The COE
houses a class 100/1000 clean room for semiconductor, biomedical device, and
MEMS fabrication; a Laboratory for Human Motion Analysis and
Neurorehabilitation; a Medical Imaging Informatics Lab; an Additive
Manufacturing or rapid prototyping systems lab; and a Cell Culture/Tissue

Required
Qualifications:
Applicants are required to have (1) an earned doctorate in Industrial/Systems
Engineering preferably with expertise in Human Factors, Healthcare Systems, or
a closely related field at the time of appointment, (2) a record of or
potential for academic scholarship as demonstrated by research publications and
ability to secure extramural research funding; and (3) a commitment to and
potential for teaching excellence or a record of successful college or
university teaching. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively
with faculty, staff, students, and community members from diverse ethnic, cultural,
and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Salary
& benefits:
Competitive. The initial salary is negotiable and commensurate with
