University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee - College of Engineering & Applied Sciences - Multiple Faculty Positions

INSTITUTION: University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee
DEPARTMENT: College of Engineering & Applied Science
POSITION: Multiple Faculty Positions
NOTES:

NEW FACULTY POSITIONS IN THE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING &APPLIED SCIENCE The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) invites applications for multiple new faculty positions at all tenure-track and tenure levels in the College of Engineering & Applied Science (CEAS).

UWM is a doctoral/research intensive university and Wisconsin’s premier public urban institution, offering a comprehensive liberal arts, sciences and professional education at the undergraduate and graduate level to its 28,000 students. The College of Engineering & Applied Science consists of six departments--Civil Engineering and Mechanics, Electrical Engineering,  Computer Science, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, with ABET accredited programs. The College has approximately 1,600 undergraduate students and 400 graduate students, both Master’s and Doctoral. Greater Milwaukee, the third-ranked manufacturing center in the United States, is home to 400+ engineering firms and 1300+ manufacturing firms with annual receipts of 24 billion dollars. The College has a long history of industrial collaboration and research support

The college seeks exceptional individuals to expand its research and further strengthen our portfolio and curricula in the following cluster
areas:

1.            Advanced Manufacturing:   CEAS and UWM have an array of research
laboratories and centers tied to advanced manufacturing with expertise in advanced and sustainable materials, composites, ergonomics, manufacturing systems and logistics, as well as a state of the art facility for industrial innovation that spans the product development cycle from concept to functional prototype using world-class CAE capabilities, Rapid Prototyping technologies, and advanced materials characterization instruments.  Areas of particular interest include advanced materials processing and manufacturing systems, additive manufacturing, hybrid manufacturing processes, biomedical device manufacturing, sustainable manufacturing, advanced sensing and control, supply chain and logistics, production planning and scheduling; and intelligent maintenance and diagnosis.  Questions related to the position can be directed to the Chair of Search & Screen Committee Prof.
Nidal Abu-Zahra (nidal@uwm.edu , 414-229-2668).

2.            Biomedical and Health:  Health is a broad area of interest and
activity across UWM and involves partnerships with other education, research, clinical and industrial institutions that comprise the strong medical complex of Milwaukee. Areas of particular interest include biomaterials; biomedical electronics, instrumentation, and sensing; biomedical imaging and photonics; biomedical informatics and computational modeling; biomechanics, ergonomics, and rehabilitation.
Questions related to the position can be directed to the Chair of Search & Screen Committee Prof. Susan McRoy (mcroy@uwm.edu  , 414-229-6695).

3.            Energy and Sustainability:   UWM has several initiatives and strong
relationships with industry on energy conversion, energy storage, and micro grids. Southeastern Wisconsin is a hub for energy, power, and controls industry. Areas of particular interest include energy conversion, renewable energy sources and systems, energy efficiency, energy storage devices and systems, electric power systems, power electronics, controls, and bio-fuels. Excellent candidates in other areas of energy will also be given full consideration. Questions related to the position can be directed to the Chair of Search & Screen Committee Prof. Adel Nasiri (nasiri@uwm.edu , 414-229-4955).

4.            Water and Environment:  Milwaukee is an R&D hub for water engineering
and technologies as highlighted most recently by the United States Environmental Protection Agency in a study on national best practices for building successful technology clusters.  Milwaukee is home to over
10 large international water corporations. The NSF Water Equipment and Policy (WEP) I/UCRC (www.uwm.edu/wep/) led by UWM CEAS focuses on pre-competitive research in four thrust areas: materials, sensors and devices, treatment systems, and policy. Candidates with research interests in all areas of environmental engineering, including the WEP center areas, will be considered to complement the existing water and environment research. Preference will be given to sustainable water and wastewater treatment, energy recovery from waste, nanotechnology and/or biotechnology for environmental systems, novel sensors, novel materials, inland aquatic systems, and climate related impacts on urban and natural environments.  Questions related to the position can be directed to the Chair of Search & Screen Committee Prof. Junhong Chen (jhchen@uwm.edu ,
