Faculty Positions in Sustainable Manufacturing

The College of Engineering at Wayne State University (WSU) is seeking applicants for tenure-track faculty positions in the area of Sustainable Manufacturing as a part of new cluster hire for the creation of a Center of Advanced Materials and Manufacturing, with up to four positions in the cluster.  Rank will be at the assistant or associate professor levels for the 2013-14 academic year. Specific areas of interest in the Sustainable Manufacturing area include but are not limited to: Modeling for Manufacturing Sustainability, Green Manufacturing, Product Design & Development for Manufacturing Sustainability, Information Technology for Manufacturing Sustainability, Optimization for Manufacturing Sustainability, and Policies for Manufacturing Sustainability.

Areas of interest for the Center of Advanced Materials and Manufacturing include but are not limited to (1) the synthesis and evaluation of innovative designs, high-performance concrete (fiber-reinforced and silica fume composites), intelligent construction materials, energy-optimized structures,  green manufacturing/construction, infrastructure sustainability, and nanofibers and nanobiocides in water purification, (2) design, synthesis, and manufacturing of chemicals and adaptive materials, nano-bio materials engineering and manufacturing, and sustainable process systems engineering, (3) manufacturing sustainability and related product development, information technology and optimization and policies, and (4) sustainable materials, additive manufacturing, material joining, mixed materials, lean and flexible manufacturing, computational modeling, metamaterials, lightweight composites and out-of-autoclave processing. Based on the qualifications of the faculty and interest, they will become members of any of the following departments: Civil and Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, Industrial and Systems Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

The Industrial & Systems Engineering Department currently has 12 full-time faculty with over 45 PhD students and 150 MS students with a small and growing UG program. The faculty bring annually over $2M in external funding and have very strong research relations with the automotive companies and healthcare facilities in South-East Michigan. The department also offers a Global Executive PhD track, the first such program in the U.S.
