The J.B. Speed School of Engineering
is implementing an ambitious new strategic
plan with a vision of excellence in engineering
education, research, and community
engagement. The plan calls for a major investment
in the School’s faculty, to ensure a
thriving academic enterprise with significant
growth in research and scholarly profiles.
The Department of Engineering Fundamentals
will play a key role in realizing the Speed
School’s vision of excellence.
Candidates are expected to have an
earned doctorate in any engineering discipline
or in engineering education with an
undergraduate degree in any engineering
discipline, a solid commitment to engineering
education and engineering education research,
excellent communications skills, and
a serious interest in teaching Introduction to
Engineering and undergraduate engineering
mathematics courses. Preference will be
given to those with publications and funding
related to engineering or engineering education
and experience teaching engineering
students.
The Engineering Fundamentals Department
is comprised of faculty who teach
core, introductory courses taken by engineering
students before they matriculate to
their chosen engineering department. The
department seeks to provide a positive and
supportive environment where students are
helped to succeed in their studies and to
select a major discipline. Department faculty
are expected to engage in educational research
in support of the department’s strategic
plan to develop, evaluate, and adopt innovative
teaching methods, both traditional
and technology enabled.

Candidates are required to submit an application with a curriculum vitae, statement of teaching
and research interests and the names of three professional references. Although applications will
