The Department of BioHealth Informatics, Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing, has an immediate opening for a post-doctoral researcher in clinical and consumer (personal) health informatics.
About us: The Department of BioHealth Informatics (BHI) is home to 12 faculty members and over 270 certificate, M.S., and Ph.D. students. BHI enjoys close collaborations with Department of Human Centered Computing, the VA Center for Health Information and Communication (CHIC), and the Regenstrief Institute, a pioneering institution in health information technologies. Located in Indianapolis, BHI enjoys the benefits of being in the state of Indiana’s epicenter for healthcare and healthcare research, including one of the largest Schools of Medicine in the US (IU School of Medicine), the IU School of Nursing, IU School of Dentistry, the Fairbanks School of Public Health, the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI), IU Health, Eskenazi Health, Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center, and Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE). BHI shares a campus with many other Indiana University and Purdue University schools and departments, including the Purdue Schools of Engineering and Technology and Science. BHI is in the Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing, the first completely new school in the United States devoted exclusively to Informatics and its affiliated disciplines. With its formative national role in creating the nation’s largest Informatics Program on the Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses, the School is the broadest and one of the largest “I Schools” in the U.S.
Requirements:
- PhD in a field associated with informatics or human factors – e.g., industrial/systems engineering, psychology, HCI/HCC, biomedical informatics, nursing informatics, MIS – completed prior to start date.
- *(Candidates with PhDs in social sciences or terminal professional degrees in other fields [e.g., MD, PharmD] will be considered if they have substantial relevant experience.)
- Experience and training in both qualitative and quantitative field research methods.
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary research team and deliver timely outcomes.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with software design/development.
- Responsibilities:
- Conduct independent and collaborative health informatics research under the mentorship of Richard Holden, PhD and Brad Doebbeling, MD.
- Apply multiple field and laboratory methods, including survey design and analysis, structured and unstructured observations, interviewing, intervention research, user interface design, and usability testing.
- Analyze quantitative and qualitative data and present findings internally and externally.
- Author/co-author review and research manuscripts and work on grant applications.
- Develop and carry out independent research projects.
Position details: Funded 12-month appointment with opportunity for extension. Flexible start date.
