BEACON Center for
the Study of Evolution in Action, an NSF Science and Technology Center
headquartered at Michigan State University, invites applications for the John R. Koza Endowed
Chair in Genetic Programming. The Chair will be appointed to a tenured position in an academic
department(s) in the College of Engineering, as befits the candidate’s background/interests.

The Chair was
established through an endowment gift by Dr. John R. Koza, a pioneer in the field
of genetic programming, to support advancement in this field while making a strong impact on
society. The selected candidate will be a pre-eminent scholar with an international reputation for
research relating to genetic programming—a subfield of evolutionary computation, will be a
dynamic and innovative leader with at least ten years of relevant academic or industrial experience,
and will have an earned doctorate in computer science, engineering, or a related field. The candidate
will have strong ties to professional societies and have fulfilled leadership roles in professional
journals or in organization of national/international conferences in the field. The candidate will have
significant experience teaching genetic programming or other topics in evolutionary computation.
Experience in practical application of genetic programming to addressing of real-world problems in
industry will be strongly valued. The selected candidate will assume a multi-faceted professorial role
including research, instruction, development of new graduate coursework pertinent to his/her
research, and substantial collaboration with faculty members in BEACON and/or Engineering.
