(1) We seek to hire at the Assistant Professor rank an individual having expertise in the thermal sciences, particularly in experimental studies of turbomachinery aerodynamics and heat transfer. Penn State is a Pratt and Whitney Center of Excellence in gas turbine heat transfer. Opportunities exist to lead a world-class turbine facility being developed through a unique partnership between industry and government.

(2) This search is part of a Penn State Cyberscience Cluster Hire in computation and data-enabled science and engineering (see http://www.ics.psu.edu/hire.html). Significant resources and faculty hires are being allocated by the university to build a multi-disciplinary collaborative research effort in cyberscience that is synergistic with existing Penn State research strengths. We seek to hire, at any rank, individuals having expertise in cyberscience with applications that intersect the discipline of mechanical engineering. Candidates having expertise in cyberscience related to smart grids, cyberphysical systems, energy systems or material science are specifically encouraged to apply.

The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking applicants for a tenure-track position in Mechanical Engineering. Qualifications for this position include a doctorate in mechanical engineering or a related field. The successful candidate will be expected to teach mechanical engineering courses effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, to develop an internationally-recognized externally-funded research program, and to contribute to the operation and promotion of the department, college, university, and profession through service.

The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering is home to 50 faculty, 270 graduate students, and 950 undergraduate students. The faculty conducts in excess of $25M per year of funded research across a broad spectrum of traditional and emerging areas in Mechanical Engineering (see www.mne.psu.edu). Penn State actively encourages and provides resources for interdisciplinary collaboration through university-level initiatives that include the Penn State Institutes of Energy and the Environment (psiee.psu.edu), the Institute for CyberScience (www.research.psu.edu/ics), and the Materials Research Institute (www.mri.psu.edu), among others.
