NOTES:
The
College of Engineering at Valparaiso University is focused on excellence in
undergraduate education, offering ABET-accredited degree programs in Civil,
Computer, Electrical, and Mechanical engineering.
The Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer
of the College of Engineering and reports directly to the Provost. The Dean is responsible for all aspects of
planning, leadership, and administration of the College of Engineering. The Dean will be expected to demonstrate
innovative leadership and provide vigorous support of the academic programs by
fostering relationships within the University and with industrial and
international constituencies.
Located in Northwest Indiana, Valparaiso University is a
comprehensive international Lutheran university consisting of five
undergraduate colleges, a graduate school, and a law school. The College of Engineering, with 28 faculty
and staff, provides an excellent undergraduate education to nearly 400
students. The College of Engineering is highly ranked among engineering
colleges not offering doctoral degrees.
The successful candidate is expected to possess the
following:
- An earned doctorate in an engineering discipline and a distinguished record of teaching, professional experience, and scholarly activities;
- The ability to function as a team member in a cooperative administrative structure and provide motivational leadership within a collegial setting;
- A strong commitment to undergraduate engineering education;
- A commitment to promote the recruitment and retention of qualified students and faculty;
- A commitment to strengthen alumni, community, and industrial relations;
- The ability to develop new funding sources;
- Experience in the area of introducing new programs and increasing enrollment;
- A commitment to capitalizing on domestic and international opportunities;
- A commitment to cultural diversity and the ability to work with individuals or groups from diverse backgrounds;
- An interest in working at a university engaged in issues in Christian higher education in the Lutheran tradition.
