The College of Engineering at Tennessee Technological University (TTU) invites applications for the position of Chairperson of the Mechanical Engineering (ME) Department. The position will be filled at the full professor level with tenure subject to approval by Tennessee Board of Regents. Applicants must have a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field; sufficient teaching experience, scholarly accomplishments, and sustained externally funded research activities and experience as a Principal Investigator on grants and contracts to qualify currently for an appointment  at the rank of tenured full professor in Mechanical Engineering at TTU; outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively with students, colleagues, staff, advisory board and other on-and off-campus individuals; demonstrated good character, professional ethics, and maturity of attitude; demonstrated teamwork characteristics and strong  familiarity with relevant aspects of an ME Department. Some administrative and management experience, non-academic professional or industrial experience, leadership experience, relevant accreditation activity experience, professional society and public service experience, and Professional Engineer registration are preferred. The chairperson reports to the Dean of Engineering and is expected to provide dynamic vision and leadership to the Department.

The TTU ME Department has 16 full-time faculty members and about 600 undergraduate and 30 graduate students. The Department offers academic programs leading to BSME (EAC/ABET accredited), MSME and Ph.D. degrees. Three state-supported Centers of Excellence support and promote the research of faculty and graduate students. The College of Engineering has recently developed a new strategic plan to implement the vision to graduate innovative leaders who can solve the technological and social challenges of the 21st century.
