Purdue University - College of Engineering & College of Science: Faculty Openings in Energetic Materials

INSTITUTION: Purdue University
DEPARTMENT: College of Engineering & College of Science
POSITION: Faculty Openings in Energetic Materials
LINK: https://engineering.purdue.edu/Engr/InfoFor/Employment
NOTES:

Purdue University’s College of Engineering, in partnership with the College of Science, has identified Energetic Materials (propellants, explosives, and pyrotechnics) as a major thrust for interdisciplinary research and education (https://engineering.purdue.edu/Engr/AboutUs/StrategicGrowthInitiative/Teams). To this end, Purdue is accepting applications for multiple faculty positions in this area at all levels (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor). The ability to synthesize, handle, deploy, detect, track, and defeat new and emerging energetic materials is critical to public safety and quality of life. Purdue University has recently unveiled ‘Big Moves’, a range of initiatives designed to broaden Purdue's global impact and enhance educational opportunities for its students (http://www.purdue.edu/newsroom/releases/2013/Q3/daniels-provides-additional-details-on-purdue-campus-initiatives.html). This initiative will support the college's strategic growth plan that will add a projected 107 new faculty over five years.  The focus in the Energetic Materials area is a signature element of this growth (http://www.purdue.edu/newsroom/releases/2013/Q4/engineering-pre-eminent-teams-get-priority-in-hiring.html).

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Science or a related field. They should have a distinguished record of research accomplishment and a commitment to teach in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Specific research fields of interest in the energetic materials area include, but are not limited to, synthetic chemistry of new and emerging energetic materials and new spectroscopic techniques and applications for trace and/or bulk energetic materials detection and identification.  The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in topics related to energetic materials, conduct research in their field of expertise, publish and present research findings, participate in professional activities, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and advise graduate and undergraduate student research. Previous experience working with energetic materials is valued, but not required.  The primary faculty appointment will be in a school of the College of Engineering, with secondary appointment(s) in a department of the College of Science if appropriate, depending on the candidate’s qualifications.

Submit your application online at: https://engineering.purdue.edu/Engr/InfoFor/Employment. The application should include a cover letter, a complete and detailed vitae, and statements of research and teaching interests. Also, please include names, addresses, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses for three or more references. For questions regarding the application process, please contact Marion Ragland (ragland@purdue.edu). Screening of applications will begin December 1, 2013 and will continue until the positions are filled. A background check will be required for employment in this position.
